My circulatory system is metaphysically linked, directly, to the practice of touching Your Hair, holding it, cutting it, proffering sculptural service, to You.

As a hairdresser I’ve recently started to lose sleep over the recent cultural dilapidation of Identity in the Haircuts I compose.  Human beings seem to be growing increasingly shy in the expectation of what their Hair should impart, impose, narrate to their community.  I am asked for shapes that are softened, diffused, apologetic, as close to Invisible as they can be.  Babies, this trend is irresponsible and dangerous, and capable of doing some serious damage to our collective Aesthetic Identity.

Birthed from the frustration of this quandary, a social remedy came to me in the darkness of one recent sleepless night.

I have initiated a program called F.R.E.E. Haircuts as a means of combating the Shy contagion.  It is a simple model within which I will provide you with a list of Structurally Accountable, Sculpturally Unapologetic, Culturally Important Haircuts.  You will review and begin to visualize yourself bearing one, several, or all of these shapes with a shifting sense of Aesthetic Ownership.  You will choose one and fill out the accompanying form.  Once You submit the form, You release all further involvement in how the Haircut will be composed.  Essentially, once Your choice is submitted, You are making the unequivocal decision to bear that Haircut in all of it’s specific and implied shape.  You will not have the option to request any adjustment in structural details (i.e. length, texture, etc.).  Simply put, You wholly accept the terms of the Haircut as it is presented to You in the photo reference.  To reward this kind of human trust, this Haircut will be free of charge; no payment for it’s composition will be accepted.

For the first round of the project, I will have a guest hairdresser in attendance.  A man who resides within the most hallowed caves of my creator subconsious, and the one who has taught me everything I know about the metaphysical and artistic force activated within the practice of cutting Hair, Howard McLaren has requested to be a part of the first round of F.R.E.E.  His presence will serve to magnify the reward of your involvement in the project.
